It’s no secret that I love Robots! The vast majority of my readers in fact have probably noticed that 3/10 of my posts typically contain some sort of a Robot.
Now this robot is above and beyond all other robots that I’ve covered. I’ve never wanted a robot as much as I want this one… It’s a robot that bakes cookies! The only thing that could make this more awesome is if it had a laser beam attached to its head.
This robot was actually designed by MIT graduate student Mario Bollini, a member of Professor Daniela Rus’ Distributed Robotics Lab. Essentially it’s a modified version of the PR2 robot, apparently it can do everything from locating the ingredients in front of it to putting the cookies in the oven.
You see this is exactly why I was rejected from MIT. I’m a terrible cook, and rather than solving that problem, I continued making terrible food in a microwave. I should have been modifying a robot to cook for me!
Anyway in all seriousness this PR2 robot is extremely impressive, it has been modified to do several different tasks in the past. It has been programed to fold socks, play pool, and more. This specific project however shows the precise moves it is capable of so I’m excited to see what more it can do in the future (it’ll be difficult for average people to help unfortunately, because of its hefty $400,000 price tag).
All I can say is that our robot filled future is looking bright!
